What will you do?

• Lead civil, structural, and construction engineering across a growing portfolio of utility-scale BESS projects, from early site evaluation through construction close-out and commercial operation.
• Act as the company’s in-house Owner’s Engineer for civil matters, providing technical ownership throughout development, engineering, construction, and commissioning.
• Lead site diligence activities, including geotechnical investigations, boundary and topographic surveys, ALTA surveys, Phase I ESAs, floodplain assessments, and wetlands determinations.
• Evaluate candidate sites for constructability and feasibility, assessing access, grading, drainage, earthwork, laydown requirements, and heavy-equipment delivery routes to support investment and site-selection decisions.
• Critically review EPC civil and structural engineering packages at 30%, 60%, 90%, and IFC, identifying design gaps, specification deviations, constructability risks, and cost-driving assumptions.
• Own the project’s civil QA/QC program, including Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), hold and witness points, third-party materials testing, Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and punch-list management through substantial and final completion.
• Ensure EPC contractors execute according to contract and approved designs by verifying installed work, challenging change orders when appropriate, and validating construction milestones prior to payment.
• Lead civil permitting and AHJ coordination, including county development and floodplain permits, driveway and culvert permits, TCEQ stormwater requirements, SWPPP compliance, fire code reviews, and utility or pipeline crossing agreements.
• Provide field oversight at key construction milestones, reviewing contractor reports, observing safety and quality conditions, verifying as-built conditions, and supporting turnover and project close-out.
• Direct third-party civil engineers, testing firms, and environmental consultants.
• Develop internal civil engineering standards, specifications, and drawing templates to create a repeatable and scalable engineering basis for future projects.

What are they looking for?

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in civil, structural, or construction engineering supporting utility-scale energy or heavy infrastructure projects.
• Experience gained within a developer, IPP, Owner’s Engineer, EPC contractor, or engineering consulting firm.
• Strong ability to produce, interpret, and critically review civil engineering deliverables, drawings, calculations, specifications, and construction documentation.
• Hands-on experience with construction QA/QC and inspection from an owner-side perspective, including ITPs, NCRs, punch lists, and third-party materials testing for areas such as compaction, concrete, and welding.
• Strong understanding of applicable civil, structural, construction, and infrastructure codes and standards.
• Experience with utility-scale BESS projects is highly valuable; direct experience with BESS projects in Texas is a plus.
• Familiarity with TCEQ requirements, SWPPP administration, and county-level development permitting in Texas is highly desirable.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Civil or Structural Engineering is preferred.
• Strong technical judgment and the ability to independently identify constructability, quality, schedule, and cost risks.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with development, engineering, EPC contractors, consultants, permitting authorities, and project leadership.
• Willingness and ability to travel regularly to project sites across Texas.
