Who are they?

  • A fast-growing, vertically integrated power company developing and operating energy infrastructure designed for the modern U.S. grid.
  • They combine utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), algorithmic optimization, dispatch, and power trading to deliver reliable power where and when it is needed most.
  • Their expanding portfolio includes distribution-connected BESS projects across the ERCOT market in Texas, addressing critical grid infrastructure and energy delivery challenges.
  • Backed by leading infrastructure and deep-tech investors, they foster an entrepreneurial, execution-driven environment where technical excellence, ownership, and innovation are essential to delivering successful projects.

What will you do?

  • Lead the end-to-end commissioning program for a growing portfolio of distribution-connected, utility-scale BESS projects, from mechanical completion through energization, synchronization, and Commercial Operation Date (COD).
  • Develop and manage commissioning plans, schedules, test procedures, and acceptance criteria, ensuring all systems are validated and project milestones are achieved on time.
  • Own the ERCOT commissioning and approval process, including Part 1 (Approval to Energize), Part 2 (Approval to Synchronize), and Part 3 (Approval for Commercial Operation), coordinating required submissions and resource registration information.
  • Coordinate with ERCOT, Qualified Scheduling Entities (QSEs), utilities, TDSPs, and electric cooperatives to complete telemetry validation, utility witness testing, and energization requirements.
  • Oversee the integration and testing of SCADA, RTU, Power Plant Controllers (PPC), EMS, BMS, and PCS, including point-to-point verification, DNP3/Modbus mapping, and telemetry communications.
  • Direct functional and integrated systems testing, including startup, energization sequencing, capacity and performance testing, reactive power verification, and frequency response testing.
  • Coordinate fire and life safety acceptance testing with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), ensuring compliance with NFPA 855 and applicable safety requirements.
  • Supervise EPC contractors, equipment vendors, third-party commissioning agents, and testing firms, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, quality standards, and contractual obligations.
  • Review commissioning deliverables, witness critical tests, manage deficiency reports, and validate milestone completion before payment authorization.
  • Maintain an active field presence during critical milestones, serving as the primary commissioning representative during energization, synchronization, and performance testing.
  • Support the transition to operations by ensuring complete test records, as-built settings, punch-list closure, and technical documentation are transferred to Asset Management and Trading teams.
  • Develop standardized commissioning procedures, checklists, and testing templates to improve consistency, efficiency, and scalability across future projects.

What are they looking for?

  • 5–7 years of experience in commissioning, startup, or field engineering within utility-scale energy or heavy infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working for a developer, Independent Power Producer (IPP), Owner’s Engineer, EPC contractor, or specialized testing firm.
  • Direct experience commissioning BESS or other inverter-based resources within ERCOT is strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ERCOT’s resource commissioning process, including Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 approval requirements.
  • Experience coordinating energization, synchronization, and utility witness testing with Texas utilities, TDSPs, or electric cooperatives.
  • Strong technical understanding of SCADA, RTU, PPC, EMS, BMS, PCS, and industrial communication protocols, including DNP3 and Modbus.
  • Experience executing and validating functional, integrated systems, capacity, performance, and grid compliance testing.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 855, fire and life safety acceptance requirements, and applicable electrical and energy storage standards.
  • Ability to manage EPC contractors, vendors, testing agencies, and commissioning documentation while maintaining schedule and quality expectations.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred; equivalent technical qualifications supported by strong field commissioning experience will also be considered.
  • NETA certification is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, technical problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional coordination skills.
  • Must be based in Texas and willing to travel up to 75% to project sites throughout the state.

Why join them?

  • Take ownership of commissioning across a growing portfolio of utility-scale BESS projects in ERCOT, with direct responsibility for successful energization, regulatory approvals, and commercial operation.
  • Play a critical role in delivering next-generation energy storage infrastructure, working closely with EPC contractors, equipment manufacturers, utilities, and grid operators.
  • Enjoy significant technical autonomy, leadership visibility, and influence over project execution and commissioning standards.
  • Help establish scalable commissioning processes and technical best practices as the company’s project portfolio expands.
  • Join an entrepreneurial, investor-backed organization operating at the intersection of energy storage, grid modernization, and advanced power technology.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, along with a flexible PTO policy.
